S. Korea, Singapore agree to enhance collaboration on defense, trade
(MENAFN) South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Sunday agreed to establish a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening ties across defense, trade, and technological collaboration. The announcement came at a joint press conference in Seoul following summit discussions during Wong’s official visit.
“Our two countries have many similarities, in that we have both achieved remarkable growth based on human capital and an open free trade order despite limited land, scarce resources, and challenging geopolitical environment,” Lee said.
Wong added, “President Lee and I just now reaffirmed the excellent state of our relationship, and the vast potential for us to do more together.”
The partnership will focus on cooperation in security, defense, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced technologies, people-to-people exchanges, and combating transnational crimes such as online scams. Both nations also committed to tackling global challenges including climate change and cross-border crime in response to shifts in the international order.
Additionally, South Korea and Singapore signed multiple memorandums of understanding covering digital cooperation, logistics and shipping, culture and sports, healthcare, people-to-people programs, and AI safety, signaling a broad and deepening bilateral collaboration.
